HISTORYIn 1999 at the invitation of Doris Chu, President of the Chinese Culture Institute, Ma Qingxiong presented his students' work in a show called Spirit of the East. Impressed by the show, Doris urged the artists to present Spirit of the East as an annual event. The Chinese Painting Guild was formed in 2000 to promote the appreciation and understanding of the values and techniques of traditional Chinese Brush Painting through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, and publications.

Ma Qingxiong has been teaching Chinese Brush Painting in the Boston area since 1991. In addition to his classes at the DeCordova Museum School, MIT, Boston Center for Adult Education, Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Greater Boston Chinese Culture Association, and Newton Adult Education.
