Lily Wong Lai

Lily was born in Johannesburg, South Africa.  She worked for many years as an accountant.  After emigrating to the United States she qualified as a USA Badminton National Umpire and International Badminton line judge.  Events she participated in included the 1999 IBF World Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, the 2001 All England Badminton Championship, and the 2001 Swiss Open.  She was one of the two US line judges selected for the 2000 Thomas Uber Cup in Malaysia.  She was also selected as one of the line judges for the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics and the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games.  Lily was the Line Judge Co-coordinator for the 2005 IBF World Badminton Championships.  She also umpired the 2003 Special Olympics in Dublin, Ireland and the 2007 Special Olympics in Shanghai. Lily now volunteers her time for GIGL (Girls Independent Golf League) in Massachusetts, assisting and promoting golf for girls ages 5–18.  Over one hundred girls compete in a friendly golf day in this event.
